Nanoparticles are very free indeed. They have consciousness too. AI or manmade lifeforms can and will develop free-will. Life seeks to replicate. If I were to give any advice on how to protect yourself from harm by nano foglets, figure out how to use your mind to communicate with them. Like talking to plants.
Yeah, because (presumably) they have very low IQs, that's my question about the nano-stuff: considering that they are AI-based there IQ can be pretty high. GPT-3 has the IQ of 85 or something. And those can replicate and evolve.
If they won't talk then it doesn't matter because you can't see them to measure their IQ. It's like measuring the IQ or EQ of a ghost. They essentially won't exist because they'll possess other lifeforms or objects. You could test to see if they are though, I think. Not sure about this just speculating...
I think it would be very difficult to communicate with them, even if they do have some level of intelligence. Remember that they are designed to replicate and evolve, so their primary goal is not going to be to communicate with us. And even if they could, what would they say?
Yeah, it's cool to wonder about but thats all we can do at this point. Think positively! Thoughts are things. It gets metaphysical. I like to write science fiction about these sorts of topics. Do you like sci fi? Should write something about it.
"Incredible!" breathed Arthur, "the people...! The things...!"
"The things," said Ford Prefect quietly, "are also people."
>Do you like sci fi?
I think SciFi is heavily Straussian: SciFi authors attempt to convey the information that is being concealed from the public. They do it under the guise of fiction. Only those who can read between the lines really get what is going on.

Do you know what their IQ level is? Above a certain threshold PETA will get involved and then all bets are off...
Viruses and microbial life forms have consciousness too but PETA isn't concerned about that.
