I inform you that the youtube video you have embedded in the post is blocked in my country (Spain.) Youtube says it has been blocked by the user who uploaded (is that true?)
whose title is "''Ozymandias'' (Sonic 06 Edit)" and I ask confirmation whether it is the same video.
This was possible because, for some reason, the people who mirror their youtube channels in Odysee include the url with the id of the original video, and sometimes even the date of upload, in the video description, and the always improving search function of odysee has been able to match the id with the text in the description.
I don't know how this geo-blocking is still a thing in 2023. I could write a dozen expletives here, but I will save those for a better occasion.
Off-topic question:
Do you know something about the future of Odysee? I listened in the podcast of Thad Russell that Jeremy Kauffman said that they (Odysee) were going bankrupt. The Federal Government is using some underhanded tactic relative to the definition of securities or another financial instrument to censor the free speech in Odysee, using the argument that LBRY does not remove videos and they are linked to blockchain transactions, and it doesn't matter that Odysee removes the access to the videos because they still exist in the network of LBRY. I have probably misunderstood the situation. I think it would be very worrying that they are attacking Odysee in that way.
Same poem reading, different video images. I prefer the one I posted, but if you're just listening, it doesn't matter.

I hear you. Do you VPN much?
I haven't had time to keep up with the Odysee situation, but it doesn't surprise me that this battle begins around now. What will likely happen next is developers will start offering open source versions of Odysee or video players that simply move us a little closer to the merger between tor and crypto solutions. This may be where free speech goes dark net before it sees the light again.
Thanks, Mathew. Although a poetry major (that sounds funny to me now) more than 50 years ago, I was unfamiliar with The Masque of Anarchy, a truly impressive piece. What is worrisome to me in our technocratic present and future is its soullessness. Gone, it seems among many today, is curiosity and wonderment. This state of reality didn't begin with the Progressive Era in the late 19th Century, but it sure got on its horse and spurred it to a gallop.
One anthropological or cultural comment: In Hispanic culture, the personification of Death is always a She, never a He. Death as a male is a Northern European cultural phenomenon.
I think that in all the Mediterranean Death is a She. I have no idea why, but it is a little observation that has come handy for me sometimes.
What a stunning essay Mathew! I find "Frankenstein" to be a most extraordinary, beautifully crafted novel. The monster is a creature that inspires such compassion. A rejected child too. And Victor is all the hubris we still find in scientists. Listening today to Tommy's podcast with Malone and Hatfill kind of exemplified this....Interestingly Shelley wrote "Frankenstein" during the "year without a summer" following the eruption of Mt Tambora. The severe and persistent cold weather during the summer of 1816 resulted in failed crops, food shortages, and economic hardships in many regions. It was a time of agricultural distress and social unrest. People were confined indoors due to the weather, and there was a sense of gloom and unease in society. Sounds familiar?
Oh, yes, and we are probably entering into a similar rather catastrophic cooling event following the Tongan eruption last January. And another in Russia more recently.
It would be very helpful if you characterized [as in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characterization_(mathematics)] what you mean by "Nazis". The characterization does not have to be exact, and may have grey areas, but should be precise enough to tell that Himmler was a Nazi, while Nietzsche or Napoleon were not. Here is a sample of some people that I'd be interested to test with that characterization:
Dear Mathew,
I inform you that the youtube video you have embedded in the post is blocked in my country (Spain.) Youtube says it has been blocked by the user who uploaded (is that true?)
Solution: I have searched the id (T3dpghfRBHE) of the youtube video on Odysee, and I have found this video https://odysee.com/@ChaosControl_VA:6/''ozymandias''-(sonic-06-edit):e
whose title is "''Ozymandias'' (Sonic 06 Edit)" and I ask confirmation whether it is the same video.

Mathew, do you know something about this?

I'm reading the poem now.

This is one of my favorites that you’ve written.
Your intellectual breadth never ceases to amaze me, Mathew
Aw, shucks.
Gee Whiz is more appropriate!
