The scientific publication industry is so broken that the Editors of major journals tell us it's broken when they aren't busy publishing vapor data projects like the Surgisphere paper or rigged World Health Organization "trial" reports.

A few weeks ago while talking with Kevin McKernan and Jessica Rose about censorship in scientific journals, I told Kevin that I felt like we were talking about history in the making with respect to his proof of concept publishing of a genomics project step-by-step, reviews included, onto the blockchain. Fast forward and Kevin has put together a discussion group to explore paths forward. If you haven't seen it already, check out Kevin's discussion from four years ago at the Texas Bitcoin Conference about the first ever publication of science on a blockchain.

When I heard about Kevin's new discussion group, I invited him onto RTE again to discuss further details. It was a nice discussion that included the practical economics of such a project, and why the economics matter.

In addition to the primary topic, we discussed how Big Data could be smashed and decentralized as well.
