A Rounding the Earth Dinner Gathering in Austin, Texas on Friday, January 20
RTE Community Posting
Over the past couple of months, a long time friend of mine has been encouraging me to do this, but I've been resistant. Call me shy, or something. Actually, I fit the mold of somebody who prefers the company of one most days, and the company of 6-12 when I'm being social. And it's still dawning on me in a strange way that tens of thousands of people read what I have to say every week.
So, here are the plans: My friend and I are renting out the private room at the new Austin (Texas) location of the Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão. We are planning to invite a few Rounding the Earth community members to join us for an evening of dining and conversation with good company.
Dinner: 6-8 PM (by RSVP/ticket $150)
Drinks: 8-whenever (elsewhere/open)
Drinks will be at a nearby location to be determined. Perhaps we'll pick a good hotel lobby or interesting bar.
I've never used Eventbrite, but the plan is to create an account later today and make 12 tickets available (there will be 15 seats, but three are spoken for). I will send out another post either this evening or tomorrow with the ticket details.
If you're in the Austin area, come enjoy some steak with us. We would love to meet some of the RTE community.
Note: It turns out my friend-organizer is using eventbee.com, which specifically competes with Eventbrite, which everyone wants to avoid for what sounds like good reason. As luck would have it, he's friends with the owner.
I could be wrong but I believe Eventbrite has been accused credibly of bad behavior towards what they consider misinformation spreaders. If I were organizing an event like this I'd verify this allegation one way or the other. It may no longer be true, or it may never have been true, or it may be true now.
